Photo Hunters - Beautiful

"History" is beautiful. Having a family cemetary 'rich' in our history is quite cool. My mom used to take us here ever Memorial Day and we would put out flowers. We also have pics next to the stones that had our namesake. Well, I got to take my DD this past Sunday and gave her a tour. Did some pics of her next to the stones too. I used to think it was 'normal' of my Mom to do this until friends said how 'creepy' it was. Now, I don't think it is creepy anymore. It is a beautiful place again to me, rich with our history of family. It goes back to the 1700s or so, and is in the town that is named after my Dad's side of the family.

I agree I love cemeteries, and find them to be peaceful places for contemplation :) I am also a fan of funerary art.

I think it's beautiful, too. Reminds me of an arts group I belonged to as a kid that used to take us on odd field trips for inspiration. Once they took us to the old city cemetery. It's just so evocative of life and our connections to everything, past and present.

Good job!

Yep, I'm a cemetery Stalker, too. Used to go with my grandmother as a girl. I love history!

Thanks for visiting my Photo Hunt today. What area of NYS are you from? I live in Central-- smack-dab in the middle of the state!

Wow that's quite a family history and you have access to some of it through the cemetery stones.

We have a beautiful old cemetery here in Toronto Called "Mount Pleasant" - I found it very park like as it's full of large trees, however every time I visited it someone in my family would die shortly afterward ... so I don't go there anymore. Now that's creepy!

That reminds me of when I used to live right next to this really old famous cemetary... They used to give tours through it every weekend, it had great gardens and really old, very elaborate monuments... I wish I had taken some photos before I moved away.

Thanks for stopping by.

Very interesting, and beautiful.
We used to do rubbings of headstones in cemeteries. Some great history and interesting writings.

Far from being creepy, I think your mom's visits to the cemetery gave you a wonderful sense of the continuity of life, passing from generation to generation. I love old graveyards too, and find them beautiful.

Thanks for stopping by today at Maraca! Hope to see you again.

I love old cemeteries. I find them beautiful also even without personal history. You are so fortunate to have a place in your life with such history. Thanks for stopping by.
